Disco Shoes… ( Sophie’s Shoes)

So my shoe collection of artworks were originally inspired by the story of the dancing princesses who would wear their shoes out dancing after midnight every night. This piece is the latest ‘shoe portrait’ where the shoes are inspired by a particular person on a theme relevant to them.

Latest in my shoe series.. a work in progress, inspired by Disco and Sophie Ellis Bextor’s Kitchen disco tracks.

During lockdown discos in our own kitchens were a big thing so the mirrored image is a theme.. dancing with ourselves in the mirror or with whoever we shared our lives with.

The shoes are sparkly and spectacular, impractical and perfect for dancing, cooking beans on toast a moonlit walk or a trip to the supermarket.

Central to the idea is a deep love of pattern and the layers of our lives evoked by the patterns that we remember at different times.

The butterfly is a Peacock Butterfly reference to the flamboyant colours and outfits that can make a dull day delightful! At the same time the transience of our existence underpins the whole piece, precious times and making the most of every moment in life.

The circle is a disco ball or clock.. 24hr lives we lead and the pattern is a carpet print.. after all we would dance in any available room, carpet or no carpet! The cross pattern also a hint at Grooverider and the Spiller logo.

The essence of the piece is neon lights in the corner of the kitchen and having fun despite everything.. the asymmetric elements are a reference to our own styles of dancing and how we really don’t care what we look like when we’re in disco mode.

Dedicated to everyone who’s having parties in fields, gardens, back yards and kitchens wearing inappropriate / glamorous footwear, keep up the good work!

Below are the different colour ways.. I actually love them all so not sure which to choose, but Ive ordered one of each and plan to add gold leaf embellishment.

The work in progress…

So.. Ive added toe gold leaf and the final touches of paint and pencil. This series will be a bespoke embellished edition, so every piece is unique ( a bit like our moves on the dancefloor..!) so every one will be listed individually. Bespoke pieces can be created with particular shoes/ venues/ tracks/ memories incorporated.. awesomeness!

Ps I would love to do some male shoes btw, just saying! x
