A piece created from the river bank by Temple Island, Henley on Thames. This is the perfect spot to watch the start of all the races during Henley Royal Regatta. The 2 crews await the start of a race, poised and ready with the Umpire launch seen to the right of the image. Dappled sunlight and fresh green foliage viewed over reflections on the river and the elegant architecture of Temple Island. This ornamental Temple (folly) was designed by James Wyatt and constructed in 1771. I love the idea that so many rowing crew have paused here over the years and the river keeps flowing. A moment of calm before the competition begins!
