I travelled in China in 1998 and often ate at the roadside cafes along the way. The tables were always patterned and bowls of hard boiled eggs were arranged on the table along with soy sauce and chopsticks. The eggs always looked so beautiful, in their different coloured bowls, I made many sketches and the image stuck with me… this piece was painted many years later, and was the start of several pieces with fruit and objects in beautiful bowls.
