All About You.. ’Terri 4 Brownie
Conversations over a ‘cut and colour’ over many years in many venues led to this bespoke piece that celebrates the friendship, love, marriage and anniversary of this cool, creative couple.
This page is designed to be a ‘work in progress’ page and a way for Terri to see the piece as it happens. Eventually it will become part of Brownie’s gift and a record of the narrative within the piece so he can see the full story and how his unique piece evolved.
The Brief:
Create a piece for Brownie to celebrate 10 years of marriage. Monochrome, to fit the new kitchen, flashes of colour and graffiti style.. drips and splashes of paint. ‘Less is more’ (Brownie’s style) ‘More is definitely more’ (Terri’s style)
Placement: Not chronological but where it sits geographically on the river
The wall is 230cm wide so final size to b 150 x 75cm
The background: both T and B love maps.. and the idea of the river running through the piece is a really important theme, below is an image I’ve sourced.. a map from 1929 ..
Ok.. so Im going to post images as it develops, remember these are like ingredients!.. will move around or get deleted, just a place to start!
First Sketches… Key images of things and places that mean a lot to the couple.. several stories hidden in there, too many to tell yet but a first few just to give an idea….
The colours are their chosen palette…
The squares are colour selections so far.. the Camper, Bikes x 2, gozney le creuset, the pedal, and a section of the ribbon that held Terri’s engagement ring on the day of Brownie’s proposal… to name just a few
Just thinking of a way to incorporate all your photos.. have a look below.. circles of pics with a bit of colour treatment. natural, mono, rockstar.. colour palette can be altered ie more pinks, blues etc. Its a way of including photo memories without contriving them to be something else. Let me know what you think x
Developments
include photos, smaller. unify with blue / purple tone (blueprint for a marriage!) and add graphic elements to the background so the dominant features are ‘the art, ie the sketches..)
Colour palette: complementary! popping contrast and bright electric hues like the pedal nd orange circle… wow factor!
latest development.. added rose bushes, ‘ningaloo blue, photos overlaid with stripe colours, forget me nots, honeysuckle and jasmine, with 10 ‘beads’ images, one for each year. emphasis on complementary colours, adding graphic elements to sketches.. the pedal is repeated as a motif for time passing.. cycling on! x
Photo treatment.
Ok so I have tried many ways to get the photos to sit with the style, not dominate but look good. I have found this solution.. which I really like.. it adds light, keeps the contrasty/funky colour palette and still maintains the detail.. let me know what you think xx
Detail of colour treatment of pics and added sharks.. !
Final proof …everything on the list is referenced somewhere.. I lovvvve it!
A couple of last minute edits.. images appear and disappear from the right and left sides.. as if time continues. I added the forget me nots on both sides.
Wow.. what a fabulous mini private view!
The piece looks stunning and amazingly Terri had kept details about the piece a secret so it was such a surprise for Brownie! Quite an emotional moment as we looked through all the details together.. and then off it went to its new home.. sad to see ‘Terri 4 Brownie’ go, it has been a privilege to create such a wonderful artwork about the most gorgeous couple.. I’ll miss the midnight texts ‘just thought of another thing to include.. lol!
Sending love to you both, can’t wait to see it in situ! love Kirsten xx
