Brand ‘Nina’

So, I’ve created this concept page just to illustrate your style ideas and a possible plan…

It may not be something you decide to do but its been in my head and so I thought i’d create it… you can share the link with anyone else if you want to.

Absolutely a work in progress so you can edit/ add/ ignore at will ! xx

( and if you want to add to the pics or don’t like any of them let me know i’ll delete!)

Style…

‘ very dark gothic, but then also a sort of light pastel pink that goes thorough it. think victorian london, ballet, Swan Lake, dreams, fluff, feathers, frost, Russia pre revolution, masks, ghosts, rooftops, W.B Yeats, wishbones, shadows, violins, silhouettes, the Brontës……!

Proof of concept…

So although Bimini’s style is a world apart..

she worked with a fashion designer to make totally unique garments with a narrative, another level to her performances.

Unique concept pieces..

Images for inspiration…

Concept

Ok so starting as you mean to go on is my thought.. and having clothes that are totally unique one offs, part of the narrative of your songs.

Benefits of designing your own clothing…

  • no unexpected hidden narratives / offbrand messages in branded garments

  • another story for people to focus on when interviewing you

  • awesome photo shoots pre designed in essence because you design the clothes

  • showcasing another talent that can add to your social presence

  • do it once or twice and fashion designers all over the world will start to send you clothes!

  • shows ambition and anticipates global domination lol!

Edinburgh

Use imagery from Edinburgh.. appeal to the national pride of your audience and totes nail their adoration!

Here are a few Edinburgh pics I took last visit….

So... you and I could collaborate on a couple of garments/ small accessories, with me as ‘artist’ I would treat it as a commission and we could work on it together if you’re back.. or remotely if there’s no time. I imagine it a bit like this in an Alexander McQueen stylee..

  • buy black stuff.. net garments, capes, skirts, whatever fits you

  • design and hand paint elements together ( happy to do most of the painting if its bringing back hideous nightmares of your art teacher lol!)

  • use white, soft pinks, deep reds, a palette you choose

  • Words could be printed using block letters too… lyrics poetry etc

  • could be fun!

Example

A current McQueen garment.. gothic style and drama

Current collection McQueen.. not making exactly this of course but you get the idea…

Simple imagery

Black and white palette ( its all about the songs after all..)

Drama and a story in spades..

Elegant yet edgy

A base piece for more layers …

Victoria Brookland..

These are artworks, intense.

Imagine motifs taken and applied to garments in isolation..

single pics.. eye, key, crow, house etc.

Painted images in white/ greys details on essentially black clothing.

Clues to a story

Clothing adds narrative

Adds to the ‘theatre’ of your performances

Philosophical angle…

in philosophy there is a flag in the sand.. people relate to an idea in terms of how far removed they are from that invariable. Asan artistic metaphor he references Jasper Johns.. with his motifs: US flag, targets, stars etc applying these through the filter of politics, ageing.. different contexts through which people can reflect on the message.

Interesting to consider an invariant.. something that won’t change, then open up a space of imaginative possibility between the present and the future. Have a think about what your

  • disillusioned, lethargic womanhood ‘my year of rest and relaxation’

  • poetry, rock, wit, cynical humour

  • Romantic poets, kings and queens, regal, luxury, eccentricity, outcast, opera, ballet, social event, light pale ghostly, gothic

  • trappings of femininity, ethereal, pointless

  • fairytales, Baroque pop rock

  • men view femininity as a receptacle for them to fill, you fall into that role,

Busking

Performing at Edinburgh Fringe

IDEA:

  • Dark dreams in ‘Garden of Eden-burgh’ lol

  • black & white garden, hidden secrets, Nina pale pinks, fairy-like/ ghostly in front.

  • Images artwork projected on wall behind as performance/busking happens

Next steps…

N:

  • Collect quotes, research projector, required format for images, press release,

  • contact fashion designer to discuss outfit

  • contact K when ready to move forward, arrange next meeting and email/text in meantime

K:

  • start sketches/prep for ‘Garden of Edenburgh’ piece

  • update web page as it happens.

Busking..

So, hope it’s going well out there. i had an idea.. inspired by our shared love for old stuff and billowy white dresses on the moor.. also a recycling vibe, vintage versus fast fashion, good for your brand positioning. I’ve written a version of Wuthering Heights... sung to the tune ( instrumental is added to Holiday by Mistake or available on spotify)

AIMS

  • harness the current Kate Bush rediscovery

  • nod to your inspirations

  • grab peoples attention instantly in the nano second they walk by

  • keep your real work as the reward for when they actually come and see you

  • make people smile and desperate to come see your show!

No worries if you don’t want to do it.. love k xx

Fluttering Whites

On the high street and the internet

I’d shop and fail it seems

I had a fashion, not a fantasy

Too much, too cheaply

My bosom heaving..

all I needed was a dress ooh

hated nylon,  loved my linens too

Nightgowns taking flight

Decided I was maxi instead of tight

Float away on my billowing, billowing

Billowing whites

On a cliff, it's me, In a dream

I love clothes, if they’re old

Hanging in my wardrobe

On a cliff , it's me, in a dream

I love clothes, if they’re old

Hanging in my wardrobe

Ooh, I make do, I recycle

Its a turning tide of new

I find a lot, in charity shops

And vintage ebay too

It’s a gothic goldmine

Out on a cliff , in my nightie

My favourite garment

I wear frocks, always white

I’m reinventing stylish late at night

I'm coming home to fluttering , fluttering

Fluttering Whites

On a cliff , it's me, in a dream

I love clothes, if they’re old

Hanging in my wardrobe

On a cliff , it's me, in a dream

I love clothes, if they’re old

Let me in your window

Ooh, its our planet

We need an eco future yeah

Ooh, make new habits

Lets look fab and float away

On a sea, of fancy

On a cliff , it's me, in a dream

I love clothes, if they’re old

Hanging in my wardrobe

On a cliff , it's me, in a dream

I love clothes, if they’re old

Hanging in my wardrobe

On a cliff , it's me, in a dream

I love clothes, if they’re old

ORIGINAL>>>

Out on the wily, windy moors

We'd roll and fall in green

You had a temper like my jealousy

Too hot, too greedy

How could you leave me

When I needed to possess you?

I hated you, I loved you, too

Bad dreams in the night

They told me I was going to lose the fight

Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy

I've come home, I'm so cold

Let me in your window

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy

I've come home, I'm so cold

Let me in your window

Ooh, it gets dark, it gets lonely

On the other side from you

I pine a lot, I find the lot

Falls through without you

I'm coming back love

Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream

My only master

Too long I roam in the night

I'm coming back to his side, to put it right

I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy

I've come home, I'm so cold

Let me in your window

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy

I've come home, I'm so cold

Let me in your window

Ooh, let me have it

Let me grab your soul away

Ooh, let me have it

Let me grab your soul away

You know it's me, Cathy

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy

I've come home, I'm so cold

Let me in your window

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy

I've come home, I'm so cold

Let me in your window

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy

I've come home, I'm so cold
