Creative days for 4 people, exploring aspects of colour and composition, natural form, narrative and expressive mark-making. Inspired by paintings such as ‘Rhubarb 1’, Sweet peas and flower gardens. Everything provided including coffee, croissants, lunch and drinks.
Venue: Kirsten’s Art studio, Henley on Thames
Workshop:
Inspired by the colours of summer, the session will centre around studies of flowers and natural form painted using fragments of collage.
No skills or experience necessary! It will be a lighthearted creative day and chance to play with materials.
We will consider the stories in a selection of my pieces and I will demonstrate my colour mixing techniques and use of painting palette.
After experimenting with the colour wheel and complementary hues there will be opportunity to design and create a flower/ foliage inspired artwork on paper.
Sketchbooks:
Throughout the day we will work on a mini sketchbook that maps the progress of your ideas… These are a favourite feature of my workshops and become souvenirs to keep and collect, mapping your progress as you do different art workshops. Feel free to bring your previous books along.
Resources:
Flowers and foliage, ironwork and garden structures
Studio gallery, library of books for inspiration.
Various papers, vintage and collected collage resources, inks, paints and pencils including gold Karisma for detailing. Sitting room and my little garden for thinking time.
Guests can bring a few of their own vintage papers, music scores, poems, envelopes or photos to use in their pieces
Suggested Itinerary:
(10.30) Welcome, Introductions over coffee and croissants at Kirsten’s studio, 26 Kings Rd Henley
(11.00) Sketchbook tasks and review of resources
(11.30) colour wheel and complementary colours
(11.45) creative task, gestures with paint
(12.00) Considering ‘Rhubarb 1’ ‘Strawberries’ and ‘Sweet peas 1’, inspirations and other pieces, critique and personal responses
(12.30) Composition Materials and inspiration intro, demonstration and examples. Experimentation and expressive mark making
(1 ish) Lunch
(2.00) Composition, narrative and sketching, planning final artworks, individually paced
(2.30-5) Creating a final piece / developed study
(5.00) Sketchbooks finished, tidy up
(5.30-6) critique and a celebratory champagne ‘toast’ to the results and photos
10.30-6pm £150 per person
includes all materials, croissants and coffee on arrival, light lunch with Provence rose, (coffee, cake and biscuits available all day)
