Beach Garden 1

The story of this piece starts on a beach in Cornwall by The Scarlet Hotel. The tide goes out quite a long way, which means you get fabulous water footprints as your feet squish the sand. I noticed that the little stones and shells sat in their own miniature puddles. The tiny rivulets, heading back to the sea, looked like stems with flowers at the top.

The original of this piece was created for Dawn French and there are a few references to Dawn and her favourite things in the background. Collected limpet shells and heart shaped stones as well as 7 Wild Garlic flowers, teacups, Dolly, Neptune, sea glass, birthdays and fabric from a very special kitchen are all secrets to be discovered.

The piece is about lasting friendship and happy memories collected along the way. The interlocking circles and layers are like moments in time, and the colours change in the same way as our lives are enhanced by time spent with friends. I hope you enjoy wandering through the flowers and foliage and discovering shared memories.. all told through fragments of found papers, stamps, maps and text.
