A piece for Miriam created as a birthday gift from Sarah. It is a privilege to create an artwork inspired by such special moments. The story below shares the story of how this special shoe portrait evolved…

Inspiration:
‘Better to regret the things you have done rather than the things you haven’t
The concept is of the shoes is loosely based around the idea of a postcard, with stamps in top right corner inspired by travel, a shared passion.
Sketch of Miriam’s shoes.. creative style, not too neat… symbolic of the style and individuality of Miriam
Image of Prevelly as ‘a stamp’ top right as if on a postcard
Vintage maps / crests of Australia, Alaska, Easdale, Margaret River
Colour palette neutrals for the map, bright pinks, greens and touches of aqua for the stamp
floral patterns from the 70s in the love hearts plus a few sketched love hearts symbolic of the many adventures to come
Things I love about you, collaged text from a dictionary includes ‘Love’ ( edited to be about shoes!) and things you love too including wine, running and your character.. loyal, creative, tenacious, wild!
Flowers inspired by Ranunculus or globe flower.. another reference to the world!
Text includes ‘Cape to Cape Trail’ and ‘Night trail in Pemberton’
a boat at the bottom.. reference to Tall ships
The blue inside the shoe hints at the wonder of walking in the sea.. wherever it may be!
The red on the soles and inside heel is a nod to one of Miriam’s other pairs of shoes..
Two flowers at opposite sides of the piece symbolic of the sister’s locations.
finally the red heart is a little note from Sarah
