‘View of The Boat House’, Henley on Thames

The Brief:
A painting of the oldest working dry boat house in Henley, Inspired by No. 1 Wharfe Lane and the oldest working dry boat house in Henley on Thames.
The building has much history and the piece will incorporate some of the stories and details from the past whilst presenting a modern view across the river and the beautiful building as it appears today.
Theme:
No. 1 Wharfe Lane and the boat house view of Henley on Thames seen across the river.
Composition:
To include the row of boat houses, the triangle of the scull in the boat house. Henley skyline, and the entrance to Wharfe Lane viewed from the bridge with rowers on the water.
Collage
Selected collage includes ordnance survey maps of Henley and surrounding villages, plus vintage text about the history of the town and the boathouses.
Style:
Bright and light with crisp colours and hidden details if the viewer looks closely.
Print:
A limited edition print will be created from the piece, potentially shown in the Regatta Gallery next year.
Stage 1: Research:
The images below were taken on an early morning visit, with the crews training as the sun came up.

I will reference ‘View from Leander Club’ and my latest painting ‘Henley in Summer’ ( see below).

A view of the buildings seen from the front, view straight into the doors of the boathouse
Composition 2
The boathouse and No. 1 Wharfe Lane seen from the side, with 2 sculls ( yellow) on the inside wall and a wooden boat on the stand. Two rowers wearing the Head f the Charles gilets on the water. This totals 5 boats which is the no of people in ‘The Lockdown Rowing Club’ logo created and added in the water.
Work in progress.. on my studio wall, absolutely loving it so far and not too far away from the point where I would stop.. just about to add a flag and detailing on the rowers.
