Flowers in a Treacle Pot

Wild flowers hand picked on a local walk.. random and exuberant, elegant in their simplicity. The blooms are in a vintage treacle pot, something beautiful about the timeless design of Tate and Lyle! The idea of syrup and sweetness hints at a walk through the meadow, warm air and jasmine on the breeze and a myriad of birds, butterflies and bees at work. A moment from the past and hopefully the future.

The delicately shaped petals and lush leaves create dancing shadows like pale blue brushstrokes on the white walls of the studio on a sunny day.

Gestural marks are reminiscent of calligraphy in pastels with splashes of brilliant pinks to capture the energy and detail of this handful of summer!

Collaged in the background are fragments of a vintage music score.. lyrics include ‘happy home’ and of course ‘love’, a central theme to this piece.
